A few weeks ago I was listening to an audio and what they found was a very common trait in entrepreneurs was that we all have brains that want to be running 100 mph all the time.
I don’t know about you, but for me – that’s VERY true.
I’m sure you’ve started working on a project then all of a sudden got side tracked and 2 hours later you’re wondering why you’ve gotten nothing accomplished…right?
Of course you have – every copywriter has done it!
So let me tell you about my little secret technique I use for those days when my mind simply doesn’t want to slow down and let me work.
So Simple, Yet So Effective…
After getting frustrated that my mind wouldn’t settle down one day – I decided to sit on my front porch and start working instead of in my normal office.
About 3 hours later, I realized I’d gotten as much done in those 3 hours as I usually do in probably 6-8 hours!
A few days later I tried it again and sure enough – I’d gotten A LOT more done than I usually do. This happened again, and again, and again.
And if you think about it – it makes a lot of sense.
You see, the reason people are very unfocused and can’t pay attention very long is because their mind is going too fast and sitting on a computer typing all day doesn’t give it enough stimulation to be satisfied.
It doesn’t have to occur all the time. In fact some people only get restless like this once in awhile. What’s important is figuring out when it’s occuring and how to fix it.
Why Working Outside Helps You Become More Productive
So what does all of this have to do with being more productive?
A lot, actually.
You see, if your mind is trying to go 100 miles per hour but you sitting in a quiet room with almost no stimulation…it’s going to make you think “oh hey ya know what, I forgot to do this, this, that and the other thing”.
In other words – you’re going to lose focus and not be able to concentrate on just 1 thing.
However, if your mind is receiving more stimulation…you’ll be able to focus on what you SHOULD be focusing on!
And I’ve found that being outside can give you just enough stimulation to keep you focused, but not so much that you’re distracted by everything going on outside.
And Yes This Usually Works – Regardless Of Where You Live
I live in the country so this works well for me, and many people might shrug it off saying “well I live in the city so it’s not going to work for me”.
Well, that’s not exactly true either.
I realize this isn’t going to work for everybody, but the reason it might still work for you is because no matter where you live, you start getting used to the usual sounds and stimulation’s that location gives you.
So while a city might sound loud and obnoxious to a visitor…to someone living there it’s hardly a bother.
Will It Work For You?
When it comes to productivity boosters like this, it’s not going to work for everybody.
But as a copywriter, you should be trying everything in your power to make your day more productive. If you can double your output, you double your money.
It’s really as simple as that.
